Anita M. Rivera, age 88, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Hendrick Medical Center.
A rosary will be held 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by David Mendez.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish with Father Nilo Nalugon officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Anita was born on December 22, 1927 in Lometa, Texas to Emilio and Juanita (Albarado) Martinez. She married Esiquio (Dick) Rivera on August 10, 1951 in Sweetwater, Texas. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a homemaker, enjoying cooking and gardening. She was a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Rivera of Portales, New Mexico, Joe M. Rivera and Dianna and Kailynn Crowley, all of Sweetwater, Texas, and Rudy M. Rivera of Sweetwater, Texas, two brothers, Henry Martinez and Richard Martinez, both of Dallas, Texas, and one sister, Dominga Gutierrez of Irving, Texas. Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emilo and Julia Martinez, husband, Dick Rivera, and one sister, Mary Martinez Luna.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association or National Kidney Foundation.
Pallbearers will be Ronny Patterson, William Tinsley, Billy Weems, Jerry Rivera, Gilbert Luna and Mike Hendrix.
