Barron Bird, age 78, of Eastland, Texas (Former Longtime resident of Sweetwater, Texas), passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at The Woodlands in Eastland, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, June 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Sweetwater, Texas,  with Billy Oliver and Dusty Lovell officiating.  Burial will follow at Slater's Chapel Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends at First Baptist Church, 213 East Third, Sweetwater, Texas  on  Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M..

Barron was born on May 8, 1938 in Hylton, Texas to John and Lorenna (Moore) Bird.  He married Betty Jean Lambert  on July 22, 1961 at the Nolan Baptist Church.  He worked for Divide School in Nolan, Texas for many years.  In 1972, the Birds moved to Sweetwater where Barron worked for Sweetwater ISD as a teacher and then as an  elementary school principal for many years.  He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church serving as a deacon for many years.

He is survived by his wife Betty Bird of Sweetwater, Texas, three sons, Richard Bird and wife Cathy of Eastland, Texas, Leslie Bird and wife Christie of San Angelo, Texas, and Cecil Bird of Abilene, Texas, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, brother, Donal Bird and wife Margie of Brownwood, Texas, sister, Loretta McCain of Odessa, Texas, two nephews, two nieces and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lorenna Bird.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Pallbearers will be Ted Sellers, Arvel Rotan, Webster Williams, Waymon Sowell, Robert Simmons, Mike Lister and Clyde Wagner.
