Clara Lorain (Benton) Hill

Clara Lorain Hill, age 89, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013 in Midland, Texas

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 23, 2013,  at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Dusty Lovell officiating.

Graveside services will be held  3:00 P.M., Monday, December 23, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery in Midland, Texas with Dusty Lovell officiating.  Burial will follow.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Lorain was born on April 19, 1924 in Runnels County, Texas to John W. and Clara (Ellis) Benton.  She married Edgar Travis Hill on August 8, 1938 in Lamesa, Texas .  She worked for Sun Exploration for many years starting out as an engineering secretary and then as a materials manager.  She retired from Oryx Energy  and was the first  female  executive for that company.  She was a longtime member of First  Baptist Church and also she volunteered in the Hospital Auxillary for twenty seven years.

She is survived by her son, Johnny E. Hill of Sweetwater, two daughters, Jackie E. Stovall and husband Bobby and Sally Meurer and husband Pat, all of Midland, Texas; seven grandchildren, Louanna Hill-Petrie, Steven J.  Hill and wife Robin, Bobby Stovall, Jr. and wife Stephanie, Travis Stovall and wife Shelley,  Jim Ed Stovall and wife Shauna, Randy Meurer and wife Martha and Marty Meurer and wife Jennifer,  fifteen great grandchildren, Daniel Stovall, Matthew Stovall, Jessica Stovall Ripley, Casey Hill, Haley Hill, Josh Stovall, Dodge Stovall, Amanda Petrie, Lindsay Petrie, Rachel Meurer, Cooper Meurer, Justin Meurer, Emilee Meurer, Jes Stovall, and Sonny Stovall and one great great grandchild, Maggie Ripley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Clara Benton, husband Edgar Travis Hill, daughter-in-law, Barbara Hill. grandson-in-law, Daniel Riley, and eight brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Bobby L. Stovall, Jr., Louanna Hill-Petrie, Steven J. Hill, Randy Meurer, Travis Stovall, Marty Meurer, and Jim Ed Stovall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Auxillary, Attention:  Ame Monroe, 200 East Arizona Avenue, Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
