Cruz Torres Rivera, age 79, of Sweetwater passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
A rosary will be held 7:00 P.M., Monday, January 14, 2013 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 15, 2012 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Okonkwo officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.
Cruz was born on May 5, 1933 in Stonewall County, Texas to Jose and Elena (Torres) Rivera. He worked for Martin Sign Company for many years as a sign designer and installer. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
He is survived by his sister, Pat Quirino and husband Lee of Arlington, Texas; sister-in-law, Luz Rivera of Sweetwater, TX; numerous nephews, including Lance Rivera, Jerry Rivera and Rodney Rivera of Sweetwater, Texas and Richard Rivera of Portales, New Mexico; numerous aunts and uncles, including Victoria Abalos and Juanita Vasquez, both of Sweetwater, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose & Elena (Torres) Rivera, brother, Sam Rivera and nephew, Ricky Rivera.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Lopez, Edward Herrera, Joe Torres, Louis Torres, Brett Rivera and Lance Rivera.
