Dewey Baxter, age 80, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 6:00 - 7:30 P.M.
Dewey was born on August 29, 1934 in Zafra, Oklahoma to Willie and Irene (Stinnett) Baxter. He married Rosell Hammonds on December 31, 1952 in Polk County, Arkansas. He was a longtime member of Broadway Baptist Church. He worked as a welder and machinist for Sweetwater Machine for many years before retiring. He had been a resident of Sweetwater for over fifty years. Dewey was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.
He is survived by his wife Rosell Baxter of Sweetwater, two daughters, Deborah Gilbreath and husband Darrel of Brownwood, Texas, and Rhonda Ivey and husband Roger of Roscoe, Texas, two brothers, Cletus Baxter of Smithville, Oklahoma and Luther Baxter of Kansas City, Kansas, grandchildren, Amanda Cash and Jeremy King, Chrisi Warner and husband Kris, Heather Garrison and husband Grady, Hillary Miles and husband Brit and Clint Ivey, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
