Sweetwater, Texas

Dionisio (Dennis) Rangel, Jr., 80, of Sweetwater passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene following complications from a chronic illness. We will miss our beloved brother and uncle.

Dionisio was born on September 2, 1941, to Dionisio and Francisca Rangel. He was a lifelong resident of Sweetwater where he attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and in his youth contributed through his talents in performing arts for fundraising events and participated in various service projects.  He was devoted to his Catholic faith and had a passion for learning about  Church history.

He worked for many years at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital as a custodian. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, arts & crafts, antiques, and making floral arrangements.

Dionisio is survived by three sisters all in Texas, Mary Nieto of San Antonio, Rachel Guerrero of Sachse, and Lucy Herrera of Canyon, six nieces and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Juan Rangel, and a sister, Jessie Rangel.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Herrera, Sammy Alvarez, Jr., Daven Alvarez, Isak Alvarez, Ryan Alvarez, and Diego Alvarez.

A prayer service is scheduled on Friday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel in Sweetwater recited by Deacon David Mendez.

Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish with Father Nilo Nalugon officiating.  Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
