Edelmiro (Pops) Gutierrez, age 88, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
A Rosary will be held 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by Jim Petrie. Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Okonkwo officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Edelmiro was born on July 27, 1924 in San Fernando, Tam., Mexico to Pedro and Maria Gutierrez. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He worked as a grounds keeper for Houston I.S.D.
for many years before retiring and moving to Sweetwater. He loved fishing and teaching his grandchildren and friends how to fish. He also loved to work in his garden.
He is survived by two sons, David Gutierrez and wife Estella of Sweetwater, Texas and Edelmiro Gutierrez, Jr. of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Noemi Russell and husband Rick of Sweetwater, Tx; Hilda Alvarado of Abilene, Texas; and Raquel Castorena of Sweetwater, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; .Daniel Gutierrez, David Andrew Gutierrez, Joe Garcia and wife Renee, Patricia Bustillos, Nickcole Caballero, Benito Jose Cano, Marcus Cano, Luis Cano, Mona Lisa Cano, Raul Castorena, Sandra Castorena, Sonya Garcia and Sophia Garcia; twenty seven great grandchildren; one sister, Ester Chavaria; and three brothers, Pedro Gutierrez and wife Guadalupe, Andres Gutierrez and wife Maria, and Jose Gutierrez and wife Rita.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Maria Gutierrez; sister, Estella Trevino and brother, Guadalupe Gutierrez.
Pallbearers will be Louie Cano, Joey Caballero, Jacob Espinosa, Mona Lisa Cano, Nickcole Caballero, and Sophia Garcia.
