Eliseo V. Gomez, age 83, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at his residence.

A rosary will be held Friday, August 9, 2013, at 7:00 P.M. at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Chapel recited by Lupe Medellin.                                .

Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10:00 A.M.  at   Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Charles Okonkwo officiating.  Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Eliseo was born on July 7, 1930 in Knickerbocker, Texas to Florentino and Olivia (Villereal) Gomez.  He married Odilia  Virgen  on  January 5, 1952 in Sweetwater, Texas  He was a lifetime resident of Sweetwater, Texas.  He worked as a diesel mechanic for Chemical Express for many years before retiring.  He served in the U.S. National Guard.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Cursitertas.  He enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren,.  He enjoyed fishing,   raising pigs, cattle and chickens.  He loved to dance,  listen to music and family cook-outs.  He had a passion for caring for his animals at home.  He was a very loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather and was very friendly towards anyone that crossed his path.  He also enjoyed fixing bicycles for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a very devoted husband to his wife Odilia  celebrating 6l years together.

He is survived by his wife, Odilia of Sweetwater, Texas;  daughters, Terry Garcia and husband Eugene of Sweetwater, TX; Odilia Sanchez and her son Sammy Sanchez of Sweetwater, TX; Sylvia Deloera and husband Henry of Arlington, Texas; and Lana Walton and husband Ben of Sweetwater, Texas;  Son, Eddie Gomez of Sweetwater, Tx; brother, Gilbert Gomez and sister, Rita Vasquez, both of Sweetwater, Tx; twenty one grandchildren; and thirty great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Florentino and Olivia Gomez; sister, Ysidra Meneses; daughter, Ydalia Alcala; two grandsons, Danny Sanchez, and Joe Sanchez, Jr. and sons-in-law Joe Sanchez, Sr.and  Steven Alcala.

Pallbearers will be Sammy Sanchez, Christopher Garcia, Sammy DeLoera, Andrew Alcala, Gilbert Gomez, Jr. and Michael Gomez.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Manuel Heredia, Louis Torres, Felix Olvera,  Joe Virgen, Raul Zamora, and Armando Montemayor.
