Eska Hinshaw, age 79 passed away at her home on Sunday, May 23, 2010.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May
25, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. with Reverend Phillip Thomas officiating under the direction
of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. Visitation will follow in the fellowship
hall at the church.
Eska was born to Charles M. and Eskalee Roberts Watson on March 29,
1931 in Sweetwater, Texas. She attended Sweetwater schools and
graduated from Newman High School in 1948. She married Morris
Hinshaw on December 2, 1949 in Sweetwater, Texas.
Having been added to the “cradle role” of the church at the age of four
hours, Eska was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. She
served the church as an elder, teacher, Pastoral Care Committee
Member, and helped organize the First Presbyterian Week-day
Kindergarten where she served on its board and as its treasurer for
several years.
As her children grew up, she participated in many youth activities – Girl
Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, 4-H leader. She took part in PTA
activities as well. She has worked with FFA stock shows and youth
baseball.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Scott Evan.
Eska was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great
grandmother. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Morris,
two daughters, Susan Story and husband Mark of Temple, Sharon
Gotcher and husband Lynn of Sterling City, two sons, Stephen and
wife Roberta of San Angelo, and Stewart and wife Lorie of Pearland,
eight grandchildren; Brandon Boley and wife Shanna of Florence,
Jason Boley and wife Sabrina of Crawford, Stephanie Stafford and
husband Lesley of Sterling City, Heather Gotcher of Stephenville,
Jessica and Kristen Hinshaw of San Angelo, and Sydney and Peyton
Hinshaw of Pearland, five great grandchildren, Ethan, Emma and Joe
Boley of Florence, and Conner and Aaron Boley of Crawford. She
is also survived by her sister, Bobbie Barrett-Varnadore of Blackwell,
Texas.
In lieu of flowers, her wishes were for memorials to go to First Presbyterian
Church, P.O. Box 956, Sweetwater, Texas 79556, Hendrick Hospice Care,
P.O. Box 1922, Abilene, Texas 79604, and the City-County library, 206 Elm
Street, Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
