Espiridion (Speedy) Ornelas, age 85, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM.
Espiridion was born on December 14, 1930 in Colorado City, Texas to Matilde and Elena (Quieros) Ornelas He married Georgia Olguin on August 4, 1951 in Colorado City, Texas. He worked for U.S. Gypsum as a production specialist for many years before retiring. He was a Catholic. Speedy's past time was gambling. He won a chair in the Las Vegas World Series in l994.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia O. Ornelas, three daughters, Julia Tovias, Sandra Vaughan and husband David, all of Sweetwater, Texas, and Angie Olson and husband Derek of Hillsboro, Texas; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, sister, Pat Torrez of Colorado City, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. .
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Naomi Ornelas, three sons, Rudy Ornelas, Eddie Ornelas, and Ruben Ornelas, son-in-law, Bobby Tovias and grandson, Jason Tovias.
Pallbearers will be Nico Alucema, Ethan Bledsoe, Jerry Tovias, Christian Ornelas, Roman Camacho, and Eddie Ornelas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oscar Garcia and Tommy Millett.
