George Hughes

George Hughes, age 76, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Merkel Nursing Center.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 8, 2022 from
8:30 - 9:30 A.M..

Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 8, 2022, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Chaplain Jim Hargrove officiating.  Burial will follow.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

George was born on November 22, 1945 in Sweetwater, Texas to Earl and Pauline Dorothy (Jackson) Hughes.  He married Linda Barnhill on June 2, 1966 in Trent, Texas.  He was a lifelong resident of Sweetwater, Texas.  He owned and operated Hughes Drilling Company and worked for Windham  ISD.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Hughes of Sweetwater, Texas, son, George Randal Hughes of Sweetwater, Texas. two grandchildren, Dustin Clancy Hughes and wife Sapphire, and Calen Wyatt Hughes,  brothers,  Richard Gillette and wife Sandi, and Benny Thompson and wife Debra.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Gillette, step-father, Tom Gillette, and foster father, Ovis Bugg.
