Sweetwater, Texas

Gloria Jeannette Stephenson (Scott)
Mesquite - December 3, 1952 - February 8, 2022
Gloria was born on December 3, 1952, in Sweetwater, Texas, the third of six children born to JW and Alice Scott.
She spent much of her younger years taking dance lessons and performing at local events and was a competitive athlete in many sports including volleyball, golf, swimming, tennis and cheerleading.  She also participated in Girl Scouts for several years.  Much family time was spent packed in the car with her parents, brothers, and sister, taking road trips across the US or swimming with friends and family at the Sweetwater Country Club.  Gloria was also a DJ for KXOX Radio in Sweetwater, where her love for music shined.  Gloria is fondly remembered by her childhood friends as kind, funny, beautiful and a quiet leader.
She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1971 and went on to attend college at both Texas Tech University and East Texas State University, where she received her degree in Education.  She was a Bonham ISD English teacher and coach for many years, the latter of which she enjoyed the most.
Gloria loved listening to music, dancing, reading, writing, spending time by the water and taking long walks.  She had a big heart for the many pets she owned over her lifetime, both cats and dogs.  Gloria had a wonderful sense of humor and with that, made many friendships right up until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Whitfield (JW) and Alice Scott, three brothers, Greg Scott, Mark Scott, and Paul Scott, a nephew, Dustin Rains, great nephew, Enoch Pope, and great niece, Mary Alice Pope.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Emily (Raul) Flores of Richardson.  Grandchildren include Thomas Raul Flores and Isabella Rosalie Flores, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is also survived by her brother,  Bruce (Janet) Scott of Lockhart, and sister,  Patricia (Ronnie) Rains of Canton, and one uncle, Max Scott of Baton Rouge, LA.
Arrangements by Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home are being made to host a memorial service for Gloria in the coming summer.
