Harroll Roland Hobbs

Sweetwater, Texas

Harroll Roland Hobbs, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 30, 2018, following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his family and his loving wife Sue.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Phillip Litton officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from l:00 PM to service time.

His journey began on May 19, 1937 when he was brought into this world by the late Harvey Houston Hobbs and Nola Mae (Billions) Hobbs.

Harroll graduated from Newman High School in 1956. It was then that he was selected "All-American" for his play as a half back. He was recruited throughout  the Nation but decided to stay close to home to help his mother, a widow.

While attending Hardin Simmons University, he was coached by another Sweetwater legend, Sammy Baugh. After college, he was in the plumbing business until his retirement in 2011.

Harroll was very involved in hunting and fishing but what he cherished was his comradarie with friends and his deep love and devotion for his family.

He was a lifelong Sweetwater resident. He married the love of his life, Sue Turner on September 22, 1960. He was a good Christian man who loved his Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Hobbs of Sweetwater, Texas, daughters, Vicki Scott and husband Paul of Sweetwater,Texas, Tammy Knowles and husband Jerry of San Angelo, Texas, Pamela Butler and husband John of Nashville, TN, son, Ricky Moeller of Lyles, TN, son-in-law, Danny Cantrell of Sweetwater, Texas, grandchildren, Dell Zetzman, Amy Zetzman, Sara Knowles, Sam Knowles, Jake Knowles, Nate Scott, Elyse Lloyd, Allison Oswald, Morgan Scott, and Whitney Scott, numerous great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey H. and Nola Mae Hobbs, daughter, Linda Leigh Hobbs, son, Harroll Roland Hobbs, Jr., brothers, Jack Hobbs, Edward Doyle "Ed" Hobbs, Billy Leon Hobbs, Bennie Joe Hobbs, and Tommy Roy Hobbs, sisters, Pauline Hobbs, and Lydia Elkins.

Pallbearers will be Dell Zetzman, Sam Knowles, Nate Scott, Jake Knowles, Landon McCluskey and Danny Cantrell.
