Helen Smith Allen, affectionately known as "Sissy", age 91, passed away on October, 18, 2012, in San Angelo, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fisher County, Texas under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home, 403 Locust, Sweetwater, Texas.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 2:00 P.M.,, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at First Baptist Church Chapel , 37 East Harris Avenue, San Angelo, Texas.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M.
She was born in McCaulley, Texas on May 19, 1921 to the late Alice and Adlie Stevenson Smith, Sr. She graduated from McCaulley High School in 1939. She valued friendships and stayed in contact with many friends from her graduating class. She began her working career while she waited for her "sweetheart", James Claudie Allen, to return from World War II. Upon Claude's return from the service, they married on December 16, 1945. Their life together began in Midland, Texas for a brief stay before moving to Iraan, Texas. Helen made their home in Iraan a welcome environment for much family and many friends for some thirty four years. Upon retirement, they moved to Sweetwater, Texas to be closer to family. Helen later moved to San Angelo, Texas and had resided there for some fifteen years having made many friends at Rio Concho Manor and her current residence of Baptist Memorial Highrise Assisted Living. Helen was active in her communities in all aspects. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Iraan; Lamar Street Baptist Church, Sweetwater; and her current membership was held at First Baptist Church, San Angelo. Helen was an humble woman of great faith, wisdom, love for others and a true passion for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty two years, Claude Allen; and one brother, Adlie S. (Bud) Smith, Jr..
Helen is survived by her children, Beverly Allen Armstrong and husband Rick of Midland, Texas; and Buddy Allen and wife, Cathy of Austin, Texas, Adoring grandchildren are Heather Armstrong Dasher and husband Kevin; Ashley Armstrong Harder and husband, Jordan; Alissa Allen and Dustin Allen. Treasured great grandchildren are Mary Avery Rovelli; Paige and Cal Harder; Morgan, Anna and Zack Dasher.
No greater bond was felt than that of her siblings--sister, LaRue Smith Geisler and brothers, Bill Smith and wife, Juanita; Joe Taylor Smith and wife, Patty and sister-in-law, Edna Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Brent Smith, Randy Smith, Ken Smith, Paul Landers, Jim McKenzie, Russell Yates, Bill Sellars, W.A. Cupp, Michael Cupp, Don J. Allen, Greg Allen, Mike Allen, Hugh Dodson, Don Frank Dodson, Mark Yates and Troy Boiles.
