Irene Pendergrass, age 90, of San Angelo (Longtime Resident of Nolan, Texas), passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013 in San Angelo, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Nolan Baptist Church with Rev. Vic Meyer officiating, assisted by Billy Oliver. Burial will follow at Slater's Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 6-8 PM.
Irene was born on September 25, 1923 in Sweetwater, Texas to Avery D. and Era Alberta (Magee) Clayton. She was a homemaker and longtime member of Nolan Baptist Church. She married Cecil Neal Pendergrass on January 24, 1948 in Longworth, Texas.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Bird and husband Barron of San Angelo, Texas and Teresa Ford and husband Jay of Montana, son, Donnie Armstrong and wife Alice of Texas; five grandsons, Richard Bird and wife Cathy of Carbon, TX, Leslie Bird and wife Christie of San Angelo, Texas, Cecil Bird of Sweetwater, TX, Ben Ford and wife Jennie of Montana, and T.J. Ford of Montana, two granddaugthers, Jessica Richter and husband Nick of Montana, and Sierra Armstrong of Texas; thirteen great grandchilden; one great great grandson and another one on the way; four sisters, Linda McKinney of Louisiana, Sherry Greve of Indiana, Sandy Apkarian and husband Yohan of New Jersey, and Gayle Skoruppa and husband Doug of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Avery D. and Era Alberta Clayton, first husband, Hollis Lambert ( who was killed in World War II), second husband, Cecil Neal Pendergrass, three sisters, and five brothers.
Pallbearers will be Richie Bird, Leslie Bird, Cecil Bird, Brandon Bird, Justin Bird, and Ben Moore.
