James W. Baker, age 84, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Haley,  Rev. Mike Redden, and Rev. Chris Stephens officiating.  Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 6:30 - 7:30 PM.

James was born on February 18, 1931 in  Hamilton County, Texas  to  James W. Baker, Sr. and Louisa (Morgan) Baker.    He married Wanda McWhorter on  July 3, 1953  in  Portland, Texas.  He was a U.S.  Navy veteran . He worked for the United States Postal Service for  thirty  years before retiring.  He also worked for Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home for over twenty years before  retiring.  He was a long time minister serving  many churches.   He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher of Broadway Baptist Church.  He also sang in the choir.    He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He will truly be missed.

He leaves behind his wife of sixty two years, Wanda M. Baker, daughter, Darla Dornbusch, son, Kerry Baker and wife Jan, all of Sweetwater, Texas, five  grandchildren, J.W. Baker, Dustin Baker, Chad Dornbusch, Kendra Dornbusch, and  Ashley  Adames and husband Justin, one great granddaughter, Avery Adames , two sisters,  Joyce Hammack of Silver City, New Mexico and Ruth Coston of Waco, Texas and  numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  James and Louisa Baker, three brothers, Ira Baker, Curtis Baker, and Jack Baker, and  four sisters. Ora Howard McCullough, Elizabeth Bowen, Verda Boggs, and Ruby Whitman Davis.

Pallbearers will be J.W. Baker, Dustin Baker, Chad Dornbusch, Justin Adames, Sam Crenshaw, and Basil Staggs.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Romine and Curtis Coston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broadway Baptist Church Mission Fund, 710 East Third, Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
