John B. Abalos, age 78, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away Friday,

October 29, 2010 , at Covenant Medical Center , Lubbock , Texas .

A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday, November 1, 2010 at

Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel. The rosary will be

recited by Johnny Cave .

Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November

2, 2010 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael

Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery .

Services are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

John was born on July 28, 1932 in Rankin, Texas . He married Victoria Torres

on May 22, 1954 in Sweetwater , Texas .

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. John began his career

in 1960 at Sweetwater Ready Mix Concrete Co. and later became a

self employed concrete contractor retiring in 1997. John loved to cook

Bar B Que for family and friends and passed this cooking skill to his

grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife – Victoria Abalos of Sweetwater , Tx ;

Four daughters – Victoria Garcia and husband Joe of Shallowater, Tx;

Helen Abalos Lopez and husband Buddy of Roscoe, Tx; Barbara Abalos

Segovia and husband Jesse of Lubbock, Tx; Margaret Abalos Gomez and

husband Ricky of Abilene , Tx ; Twelve grandchildren, Twenty six great

grandchildren. Three brothers – Selso Abalos, Joe Abalos and Manuel Abalos.

Four sisters – Mary Gonzales, Ann Purcell, Mage Jacobo and

Lita Gonzales.

He was preceded in death by parents – Francisco and Margarita

Barrera Abalos and one brother and four sisters.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Garcia, Rodney Garcia, Timmy Garcia,

Edward (Spider) Herrera, Eloy Herrera, John Benjamin Abalos,

Issac Segovia, and Jesse Segovia III .
