John Edward Pendergrass, age 87, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring, Texas.
His body was cremated. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church with Keith Hills officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
John was born on January 15, 1925 in Hermleigh, Texas to Ruben and Alice (Funderburg) Pendergrass. He married Kathryn Gay (Morris) Graham on September 20, 2002 in Sweetwater, Texas.
John attended schools in Longworth and Roby, Texas. He worked for TXU Electric for 39 l/2 years, before retiring in October, 1986. John was an avid hunter, loved fishing and gardening, and was a supporter of the Sweetwater Mustangs. He was a Lutheran and a decorated U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Pendergrass of Sweetwater, Texas; two sons, Scottie Clark Pendergrass and wife Jeanne of Lockhart, Texas; and Ricky Lynn Pendergrass of Sweetwater, Texas; three grandsons, Adam Pendergrass and wife Shara; Tyler Pendergrass and Shay Pendergrass, all of Lockhart, Texas; one great grandddaughter, Emily Pendergrass; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Alice Pendergrass; four brothers and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
