Jose "Joe" Aguirre, Jr., age 76, of Sweetwater, Texas, (Former resident of Del Rio, Texas), passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 , at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.
A rosary will be held 7:00 P.M., Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home from 4-9 P.M., on Sunday, September 15, 2013.

Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. , Monday, September 16, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Del Rio, Texas. Burial will follow at San Felipe Cemetery in Del Rio, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home of Del Rio, Texas.
Jose was born on January 28,1937, to Jose and Carmen (Chavez) Aguirre in Del Rio, Texas.
In 1967, Jose began a long career with Val Verde County until he retired in 1997. Jose lived in Del Rio most of his life until he moved fulltime with his daughter, Maria Cruz to Sweetwater in 2004 after becoming ill. Jose always had a special place for those in need of anything and would do his best to help them. He enjoyed visiting with his cousins in Sonora,especially Yolanda, his friends from the Grupo Misionero at Immaculate Heart and all the friends he made in Sweetwater. While in Del Rio, Jose and his wife Maria Cruz were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Ladies Auxillary and St. Joseph's Men's Club.
Jose is survived by his daughters, Maria C. Aguirre-Acuna of Sweetwater, TX and Elizabeth "Liz" Aguirre of San Antonio, TX, and his son, Juan J. Aguirre and wife Ivon of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren: Jacklyn E. Gomez, Guillermo Gomez, II, of Del Rio, Texas; and Juan Mateo Aguirre of Houston; Texas; sister, Carmen Aguirre of San Antonio, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Maria Cruz A. de Aguirre; sisters, Dolores Aguirre, Martha Aguirre Sanchez and his parents.
The family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Trauth, his nursing staff, Diane and Tiffany, Sweetwater Healthcare Center Nursing Staff, Rosa Gutierrez and the entire CNA staff, the staff of Compass Hospice, his caregiver, Margie Ortega, loyal and supportive friends Lupe Acosta and Monica Wagner of his daughter Maria for helping out when she needed assistance and the wonderful family of TSTC West Texas.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Carlos H. Rios, Ernesto G. Frias, Humberto Franco, Jesus Lopez, Guillermo Gomez, II, and Jesus Rios.
Honorary pallbearers will be Juan Mateo Aguirre, Jackie Gomez, David Maldonado, and Grupo Misionero.
