Mary Helen Bridges, age 97, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, December 11, 2014 at
First Baptist Church with Rev. Malcolm Brown officiating. Interment will be at Garden of Memories in Sweetwater. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Mary Helen was born on September 24, 1917 in Sweetwater, Texas to William B. and Fannie (White) Thomas. She married Alfred M. (Mose) Bridges on November 5, 1937 in Mason, Texas. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, first as an operator, then in the business office, and was ultimately promoted to the position of secretary to the Wire Chief where she worked for over forty years before retiring.
She was a loyal, dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Sweetwater since childhood. She loved her Lord, horses, shooting pistols, playing the piano and organ, and her family. She was a committed care giver during the last years of the lives of her parents, her sister, and her husband.
Mary Helen is survived by one son, Thomas Lee (Tom) Bridges and his wife Mary of Portland, Texas, plus several nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. Among her many special friends were Lupe Montemayor, Virginia Guerrero, Lilia Melendez, Linda Kite, Kathryn Pendergrass, Shelia Ellison, Julie Morales, and Aurora Serrano who shared their love and care during Mary Helen’s last few years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Wilton Hayes, Dusty Lovell, Waymon Sowell, Gene Elston, Watson Moore and Larry May.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30.
