Mary Frances (Davis) Johnson

Mary Frances Johnson, age 71, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Fourth & Elm Street Church of Christ, with Jim Wilks and Mike Crowley officiating.  Interment will follow at Palava Cemetery, Palava, TX.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

She was born April 8, 1941, in Roscoe, TX, to J.R. and Fannie (Rackley) Davis. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1959, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education (1964) from Sam Houston State University, in Huntsville, TX. For 28 years, Frances taught students across Texas, most notably as a high school Honors English teacher at Permian High School, and as a teacher for Sweetwater Independent School District. She retired from teaching in 1999.

Frances Davis married Stanley Johnson in Sutherland Springs, TX, on June 8, 1969. Following residence in San Antonio and Odessa, TX, Frances and Stanley settled in Sweetwater, where they lived for 41 years. They have two daughters, Holly Rendon of Sweetwater, TX, and Alison Crosby of Willis, TX.

In addition to her husband and two daughters, Frances is survived by her brother, Jimmy Davis, and his wife, Judy, of Sweetwater; sister, Janice Brown, and her husband, Philip Brown, of North Richland Hills, TX; sons-in-law, Joe Rendon of Sweetwater and James Crosby of Willis, TX; five grandchildren, Benjamin Crosby, Noah Crosby, Jonah Rendon, Dominic Crosby, and Jolie Rendon; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Frances was a member of Abilene Writer's Guild, Abilene Philharmonic Association, Sweetwater Library Board, Sorosis Club of Sweetwater, A.A.U.W., and Let's Talk Books.

Pallbearers will be James Crosby, Roddy Davis, Cliff Mainor, Jerald Posten, Jeron Posten, and Joe Rendon.

Donations may be made to County City Library, or a library of the donor's choice.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 26, 2012, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
