Merle (Williamson) Fitts

Merle Fitts, 92, died on June 21, 2013  in El Dorado, Arkansas, while in the care of hospice.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Roscoe Cemetery with Father Dennis Bosley officiating.  Burial will follow at Roscoe Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Merle  was born November 20, 1920 in Seagoville, near Dallas, and moved to Roscoe, where she attended Roscoe High School.  She married Doyle Fitts on Nov 15, 1937 in Roscoe, Texas.  They were married for 62 years. A resident of Sweetwater since 1941, she moved to El Dorado after her husband died in 1999. A stay at home mother for most of her life, she eventually worked at Sears Roebuck in Sweetwater and retired to travel with her husband in 1985. Merle was an accomplished artist, seamstress, needle-pointer and quilter. She had been a member of the Sweetwater First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her brother, Lynn Williamson of Baytown, two sons, Mike Fitts  (Linda) of El Dorado and Leon Fitts (Mary) of Augusta Ga., two grandsons (Lundy and Josuha), four granddaughters and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Ellis and Mary Williamson and her husband, Doyle Fitts.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 7-8 PM.
