Odilia V. (Virgen) Gomez

October 11, 1933 — April 25, 2016

Odilia V. Gomez, age 82, of Sweetwater, Texas, was called home to be with her heavenly father on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family and friends.

A rosary will be held 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by Lupe Medellin.

Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 27, 2016  at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating.    Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.   Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Odilia was born on October 11, 1933, in Sonora, Texas to Elijo and Josefa (Perez) Virgen.  She married Eliseo Gomez on January 5, 1952 in Sweetwater, Texas.  She was a devoted member  of Holy Spirit  Catholic Parish, a member of the Guadalupanas and she was also involved in church activities.  She worked at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital as a cook for many years before retiring.  She was a longtime resident of Sweetwater, Texas.  She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She loved to work in her yard and gardening.  Her hobbies were to go to flea markets and garage sales.

She is survived by her daughters, Odilia Sanchez of Sweetwater, Texas; Sylvia DeLoera and husband Henry of Arlington, Texas; Terry Garcia and husband Eugene of Sweetwater, Texas; and Lana Walton and husband Ben of Sweetwater, Texas; son, Eddie Gomez of Sweetwater, TX; twenty one grandchildren, and thirty great grandchildren, and one brother, Jose Virgen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elijo and Josefa Virgen, husband, Eliseo V. Gomez, daughter, Ydalia Alcala, son-in-laws, Joe Sanchez, Sr., and Steven Alcala, sisters,Juanita Gandar, and Esperanza Torres, ,  brother Eristeo Virgen and three grandsons, Joe Sanchez, Jr.,  Danny Sanchez and Sammy Sanchez.

Pallbearers will be Sammy DeLoera, Steven Alcala, Christopher Garcia, Kristion Barrera, Shawn DeLoera, and Eddie Gomez, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Gomez, Jr., Hector Torrez, and Eric Gomez.
