Oscar Lowell Taylor, Jr., age 84, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away Friday,

November 19, 2010 at V.A. Medical Center in Big Spring , Texas .

His body was cremated. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday,

November 27, 2010 at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. James Baker officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Oscar was born June 9, 1926 in Sweetwater, Texas . He was a disabled veteran

of World War II, wounded in action June 18, 1945 in the Pacific Theatre and he

received Asiatic Pacific Medal with one Bronze Battle Star, American Theatre Medal,

Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Purple Heart. He was

honorably discharged on May 27, 1946 . After being discharged, he went on to attend North

Texas State College at Denton , Texas and graduated with honors on May 29, 1949.

He then studied for and received his C.P.A. certificate on January 23, 1952.

He was a partner in a C.P.A. firm in Lovington , New Mexico for many years. When he

retired, he came back to Sweetwater to help and care for his mother.

It seems he was always a “caregiver” all his life, helping his family – whatever was

needed, monetarily or other ways as best he could. He was always ready to help with

his grandparents, his mother, his sister and offering help and support to his grand-

parents and mother in raising his younger brother, Jimmie and sister, Barbara.

He was an animal lover. He especially loved his cat and his mother’s little chihuahua

puppy. The puppy was named “Ossie” after him.

He is survived by one brother – Jimmie Gilbert Taylor of San Angelo , Texas ; one

sister – Barbara Jean Grant and husband James of Abilene , Texas ; Several nieces

and nephews – Jimmy Taylor, Jr., Michael Taylor, Susan G. Lamb, Mark A. Grant,

Vance S. Grant, numerous great nieces and nephews, cousin – Jerry R. Goad, and

special friends – Dolores and Mary Gutierrez.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents – Eva Mae and William Thomas Kent,

his father – Oscar L. Taylor, Sr., his mother – Willie Lee ( Kent ) Taylor and one

sister – Frances L. Kamai.
