Patsy Ruth (Armstrong) Hefner

Patsy Ruth Armstrong Hefner, age 91, of Murphy, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Lynridge Assisted Living.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Highland Heights Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Holder officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 P.M.

Patsy was born on March 19, 1927 in Palava, Texas to Bernice (Ingley) and Walter Armstrong. She attended Sweetwater schools, graduating Newman High School in 1945. She married John B. Hefner on April 20, 1946. They made their home at 705 Washington in Sweetwater where she lived until 2012.

She was a long-time member of Highland Heights Methodist Church. She was employed by Sweetwater ISD as Food Services Manager for 25 years, retiring in 1992. She was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW, a member of the Texas Education Extension Agency, a member of Texas Teachers Retirement Association, a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a volunteer at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, and delivered meals-on-wheels.

Patsy was an excellent cook, a history buff and avid reader. She found special joy in caring and compassion for others through the years with her children, grandchildren, friends and beloved pets. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jelly; son, John (Bo) Hefner; brother, Walter Armstrong; and granddaughter, Audrey Christopher.

She is survived by her six daughters; Carol Edwards and husband Larry of Richmond, Ann Dunlap of Lubbock, Patricia Thompson and husband Perry of Brownwood, Brenda Kesterke and husband Ron of Cypress, Robbie Cole and husband David of Katy, and Coralyn Torres of Lubbock; daughter-in-law, Melody Hefner of Sweetwater; seventeen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Jason Hefner, Clint Hefner, Travis Edwards, Kevin Edwards, Rodney Wilkinson, Jereme Cole, Jordan Torres and Rhett Torres, and honorary pallbearer, Courtney Wilkinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Heights Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
