Patsy Ruth (Tucker) Smith, age 82, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 Garden of Memories officiated by Dwayne Hill, assisted by Joshuah Ellis. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 6-8 P.M..
Patsy was born in Sweetwater, Texas on March 31, 1931 to Gilbert W. Tucker & Annie May (Wilkins) Tucker.
She attended Sweetwater schools and graduated from Newman High School in 1948.
Patsy worked at several Sweetwater businesses that include salesclerk at F.W. Woolworth, cashier with Levy's Department Store, bookkeeper with Vandervoort's Milk & Ice Cream, audit clerk with Sears Roebuck & Company, secretary to the principal at Reagan Jr. High School and l8 years as a service representative with the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, from which she retired.
During her retirement, Patsy became involved with locating her former classmates from the Newman High School Class of 1948. With help from some of her former classmates, all but three were located. Her latest hobby was keeping in touch with her classmates.
Patsy also became involved with her husband's Navy conventions which were held in major cities within the United States. She was a member of the National Ladies Auxiliary Destroyer Escort Sailors Association & a member of the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum.
She married Floyd Leverette (Smitty) Smith on November 18, 195l in Sweetwater, Texas. During their 52 & l/2 years of marriage, they lived only in two homes that Smitty built. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2004.
Patsy was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bonnie Ann Smith, her parents, Gilbert & Annie Tucker, four sisters, Oneta Faye King, Jessie Mae Bowie, Marjorie Burkett, Jo Ella Duke and one brother, Gilbert (Bill) Tucker.
Survivors include her son, Joe Don Smith and his wife Pamela Ann Smith of Sweetwater, one grandson, Christopher A. Smith and his wife, Michelle Smith of Framingham, Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews.
