Petra (Betty) Olvera Obituary

Petra (Betty) Olvera, age 80, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Sterling Hills Rehab.

A prayer vigil will be held 6:30 P.M., Friday, April 25, 2025 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a rosary at 7:00 P.M. recited by Deacon David Mendez.

Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish with Father Josh Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Petra was born July 19, 1944, in Sweetwater, Texas. Her parents were Cayetano and Francisca (Gutierrez) Olvera. She was a lifetime resident of Sweetwater and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish. She was a free spirit. She sought happiness and adventure from life and encouraged us to do the same. No matter her circumstances, she always seemed to be happy and always greeted us with a smile.

She is survived by nephews, Daniel Olvera and wife, Lucy of Lubbock, Texas and David Olvera and wife, Celine of Helotes, Texas; nieces, Diana Lord and husband, Donnie of Brownwood, Texas, and Maria Kuykendall and wife, Tobie of Uvalde, Texas; five great nieces and great nephews, Nicholas Olvera, Laura Olvera, Thomas Adolfo Bir Olvera, Frankie Fournier, and Graham Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cayetano and Francisca Olvera, brother, Adolfo Olvera and sister-in-law, Elvira Olvera.

Pallbearers will be David Olvera, Daniel Olvera, and Thomas Adolfo Bir Olvera.
