Retta Mae (Robinson) Carrington

April 13, 1922 — January 30, 2016

Retta Mae Carrington went home to be with her heavenly Father after many years of serving him here on earth.  People who knew her or even those who met  her, could see that she radiated with a special light from the Lord.

Funeral services will be held  on Saturday, February 6, 2016  at 2:00 P.M.,  at the Lamar Street Baptist Church in Sweetwater, Texas with Rev. Robert Carey  officiating.  Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.    Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Retta Mae was born April 13, 1922 , to Frank and Donnie (Sheppard) Robinson, in Pflugerville, Texas.    She worked as a private housekeeper for many years before retiring.  She was a member of Greater Zion Baptist Church.  She married James Burt Carrington on December 24, 1940 in Austin, Texas.  "Retta Mae" has been a popular name in the community for over a decade because of the restaurant named after her.  She was very proud of that.  Whenever she ate there, she felt like a celebrity.

She is survived by  four daughters, Mae Ivory Banks of Sweetwater, Texas,
Mary  Isabel Williams and husband Raymond of Sweetwater, Texas, Annie Laverne Williams and husband Robert of Roscoe, Texas, and Marie Owens of Austin, Texas, and two sons, Bennie Carrington and wife Sharmaine of Sweetwater, Texas, and Alvin Carrington and wife Gwendolyn of Albuquerque, New Mexico, twenty two grandchildren, numerous great  and great great grandchildren, one brother, Edward Robinson and wife Elsie of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and two sisters, Dorothy Mae Sadlers of Sweetwater, Texas and Doris Jean Robinson of Roswell, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Donnie Robinson, husband, Rev. James Burt Carrington, son, James Carrington, Jr. , brothers, Bennie Robinson, Ernest Robinson, Twins, Robert D. & Booker T. Robinson, and Elroy Robinson and grandson, Troy Alexander Carrington.

Pallbearers are:  grandsons and great grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers are:  Bennie Carrington, Alvin Carrington, Robert Williams and Edward Robinson
