Robert was born to Robert Saunders, Sr. and Claudia Mae (Johnson) Saunders on March 4, 1950. He grew up in Odessa, Texas. In 1968, Robert joined the United States Army where he was a sergeant. He proudly served from 1968-1970. After his time in the Army, Robert worked many jobs, but he spoke most fondly of his time working on a shrimp boat in the Corpus Christi Bay. Corpus Christi was a place he loved to be, and he visited often until he was no longer able to. He worked for Texas Instruments in Odessa, Texas, where he met his wife, Connie. He also worked as a sales manager for Radio Shack for many years. He enjoyed keeping up with the latest technology, though that joy didn’t follow him into his golden years. After retirement, Robert enjoyed playing chess and fishing. He would spend hours at the kitchen table playing chess with his son and his two grandsons. He also passed on his love of fishing to his daughter and her two children. They spent many days fishing from sun up to sun down. Robert and his wife, Connie, bought their dream home on Lake Sweetwater in 1994, where he was fortunate enough to take his last breath.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Sonya Glass and her husband, Eddie, son, Bryon Saunders and his wife Linda, daughter, Stephanie Eivens and her husband Chad. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alicia, Sasha, Leslie, Dustin, Cameron, and Madelyn.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Claudia, wife Connie, brother Milton, and his beloved dog, Precious.
