Robert "Bobby" Alcala Gonzales, Jr., age 59 of Sweetwater, TX, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 3, 2014 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Deacon Bill Butler officiating.
A rosary will be held 7:00 P.M., Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by Lupe Medellin. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Robert was born on June 27, 1954 in Sweetwater to Robert Martinez Gonzales and Alice Alcala Gonzales. He has one brother, George Alcala Gonzales and one sister, Eva Alcala Gonzales, Robert attended Sweetwater ISD as a youth. He worked from a young age in the oil fields of
west Texas, as a roofer, but Bobby was most known for his cement work, laying countless yards of cement with his father, brother and friends. He spent his lifetime as a Sweetwater resident. He enjoyed fishing. He loved his 12 grandchildren dearly, referring to the boys as his "little buddies" and the girls as his princesses."
Robert is survived by one sister, Eva A. Gonzales, one brother, George A. Gonzales and Wife Wanda, three sons, Alex Gonzales and wife JoAnn, Brian Gonzales, Derek Gonzales and wife Amanda, all of Sweetwater; one daughter, Renee Townsend and husband Gary of Abilene, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Diego, Mia and Timothy Gonzales, Andrew and Santana Gonzales, Sebastian, Jacob, Karli and Marcus Gonzales, Isaiah and Anthony Gongora, Gabriella Townsend and three great grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Alice A. Gonzales. His father passed away on February 27, 2014 (two weeks after his date of death).
Bobby will greatly be missed by his family and friends.
