Ruben Ornelas, age 60, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M.,, Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with David Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Ruben was born on August 29, 1954 in Sweetwater, Texas to Espirdion (Speedy) and Georgia (Olguin) Ornelas. He was a Baptist. He worked for Arco Refinery in Houston, Texas before retiring. He never met a stranger. His hobbies included creating wonderful food, gardening, and fishing.
He is survived by his parents, Speedy and Georgia Ornelas of Sweetwater, Texas; four sons, Ruben Semei Ornelas, Christian Ornelas, Edward Ornelas, and Giovanni Ornelas, all of Houston, Texas, numerous grandchildren, and three sisters, Julia Tovias of Sweetwater, Texas, Sandra Vaughan and husband David of Sweetwater, Texas, and Angie Ornelas and husband Derek Olson of Hillsboro, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rudy Ornelas and Eddie Ornelas, brother-in-law, Bobby Tovias, and nephew, Jason Tovias.
Pallbearers will be Gilbert Ybarra, Jason Blueford, Julian Moncada, Eddie Ornelas, Oscar Garcia, and Salvador Moncada.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Garza, Ethan Bledsoe, and Derek Olson.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 6:00 -7:00 P.M.
