Sammy Lee Gilbert

June 12, 1935 — September 7, 2015

Sammy Lee Gilbert, age 80, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2015 at Hendrick Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Baker officiating.  Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home

Sammy was born on June 12, 1935 to Sam and Mettie (Smoot) Gilbert.  He married Barbara Sue "Bobbie" Gilbert on September 27, 1956.  He worked for Flintkote for nine years and then owned his own garage and mechanic shop, Sam's Place.  He was a Baptist.

He is survived by son, Derrick Gilbert and wife Laura of Sweetwater, Texas, daughter, Susan Oleson and husband Bo of Sweetwater, Texas, five grandchildren, Waylon Edwards, Roger Sallas and wife Elaine, Kristopher Dunn and wife Melissa Josh Gilbert and wife Christine, and Zach Gilbert, two great grandchildren, Mackenzie Norman and Dawson Gilbert, and special friend, Helen Templeton of Haskell, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mettie Gilbert, wife, Barbara (Bobbie) Gilbert and three brothers, Carroll Gilbert, Delmar Ray (Slim) Gilbert, and Lowell Gilbert.

Pallbearers will be Josh Gilbert, Zach Gilbert, Bo Oleson, Roger Sallas, Marlin Daniel and Kerry Baker.

Honorary Pallbearers are Dwight Gunn, Lowell Williams, Kristopher Dunn, and Waylon Edwards.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 6:30 - 8:00 P.M..

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
