Sheila (Wolf) Stroman

August 7, 1947 — November 8, 2023

Sweetwater, Texas

Sheila Jeane Wolf Stroman, 76, died on November 8, 2023 in Sweetwater. She is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Elissa (of Lubbock), and sister Ada Wolf (of Bandera).

Sheila was born in Meadville Pennsylvania on August 7, 1947. She was the daughter of Methodist minister Sheldon Wolf who was stationed in Abilene during World War II and married Imo Jeane Allen of Anson. The family moved around in Sheila’s childhood before settling in Sweetwater her junior year of high school.

Sheila attended McMurry College and discovered a love for art thanks to the teachings of J. Robert Miller. She majored in Art and minored in English and would go on to teach English and art in Colorado City, Divide, and Sweetwater public schools, as well as TSTC Sweetwater for over twenty-five years before her retirement in 2013. She was a strict but patient and compassionate teacher who instilled in her students a love of fine art and wonderful literature. One of her favorite sayings to have students memorize was “good better best, never let it rest, until our good is better and our better best.”

In 1980, thanks to a finicky light on her beloved 1972 yellow Mustang, she reconnected with Bill Stroman (they both graduated from Sweetwater’s Newman High School in 1965), and they married in November 1981. Together they had one daughter, Elissa, who was raised in a home full of books, art, and love.

In recent years, she suffered from vascular dementia, but even until the end was asking people how she could help them. The family cannot thank the wonderful nursing staff at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital enough for their amazing care in her final days.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, aunt Mary Merle Allen, and brother Sheldon “Sonny” Wolf Jr.

Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30 on November 10 at Cate Spencer Trent Funeral Home in Sweetwater. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to McMurry University to benefit the Stroman Family Endowed Scholarship.
