Virgie Lee (Amos) Jones

August 25, 1946 — April 22, 2022

Sweetwater, Texas

Virgie Lee Jones was born on August 25, 1946, in Burleson County, Texas. She was the first child of Willie B. and Addie V. (Jefferson) Amos and was her grandmother’s namesake, Virgie Lee Simpson. Virgie was raised and attended school in Burleson County.

She married Morris C Jones on October 22, 1965, in Caldwell, Texas, and they relocated to Sweetwater, Texas, shortly after.

Spending all her adult life in Sweetwater, she retired from Walls Outdoor Goods factory as a seamstress after nearly 40 years. Her love of children led her to Lang Aycock Day Nursery, where she retired a second time after serving more than ten years.

A dedicated, loving daughter, wife, mother, friend, aunt, and cousin, Virgie was a pleasure to be around anyone that knew her. Although she didn’t physically have children, she assumed her motherly role as she cared for her youngest brother when he was six days old. She loved her family immensely and always ensured she was present for family events in her hometown. She accepted Christ at an early age and served as a faithful member of Mt. Rose Baptist Church.

Virgie enjoyed sewing and baking, had a knack for shopping for the best deals, and was a Dallas Cowboys fan. Known for her humble nature, her self-sufficiency and genuine spirit were often admired by her family and friends.  After a stint with lung cancer, Virgie departed her earthly life peacefully on April 22, 2022.

Virgie Lee is preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 55 years, Morris, her parents, three sisters (Margaret, Carolyn, Mary Frances), and three brothers (Charlie, Donnie, Frank). She leaves to treasure her memory two sisters, Betty Jean Amos, and Shirley Jean Cotton; Three brothers, Willie B. Amos, Jr. (Sharon), Donald Jefferson (Linda), Warren Jefferson, and Terry Amos; Four Sisters-in-law Dorothy Nelson, Rose Jefferson, Lela Jones and JoAnne Jones. Special friends Eula and Hilton Bender and a host of relatives and friends.
