William Christopher (Chris) Birkla, age 52, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 in Albuquerque, New Mexico after a brief illness.
His body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Chris was born on November 2, 1961 in Snyder, Texas. He worked as a carpenter for many years. He was a member of Fundamental Baptist Church (Broadway Baptist Church).
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Sue and Ronnie Way of Sweetwater, Texas, brother, Randy Birkla of Abilene, Texas, and two sisters, Mona Miller of Mansfield, Texas and Sharon Hernandez of Mesquite, Texas, six nieces and nephews, Chastity Hodges, Russell Birkla, Christopher Bray, Megan Freeman, Kevin Birkla, and Kelly Birkla, six great nieces and nephews, Mackenzie Birkla, Nathaniel Birkla, Trenton Bray, Kylie Freeman, Mckenna Birkla, and Sage Jones, two step-brothers, Daniel Way and Jason Way, and step-sister, Pam Way.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Lloyd Foley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Gentiva Hospice, 601 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102-3619.
