William (Bill) Johnston, age 92, of Sweetwater, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Hendrick Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Fourth & Elm Church of Christ with Michael Harbour officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM.

Bill was born on September 3, 1924 in Texhoma, Oklahoma to Robert Lee and Eula (Storrs) Johnston. He married Joyce James on June 11, 1943 in Boise City, Oklahoma. He attended and graduated from Freed-Hardeman and Abilene Christian College. He was a Church of Christ minister from 1957 to 1982. He preached in Wilcox, Arizona for thirteen years, and in Fort Morgan, Colorado for twelve years. He later moved to Sweetwater, Texas in 1983. He then worked for Sweetwater Floral. Bill was a longtime member of Lamar Street Church of Christ and later became a member of Fourth and Elm Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. He was also known for his hobby of woodworking where he made some beautiful handcrafted artwork. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and he also loved his Lord.

He is survived by daughter, Anita Brodnax of Hot Springs, Arkansas, son, James Phillip Johnston and wife Cindy of Lubbock, Texas, son-in-law, Gene Fox of Sweetwater, Texas, ten grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joyce Johnston, two daughters, Mary Fox and Margy Simeone and two granddaughters, Kristen Johnston and Julie Johnston, great granddaughter, Hadley Rogers, brother, Robert Lee Johnston, Jr. and sister Wilma Nell Saunders.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
